I wrote this from my room at the African Regent in Accra during my stay in Oct 2007. The lobby greets you with lovely contemporary African art and a nice bar and lounge area. However, the staff doesn't live up to expectations right from the bat. Over 20 minutes just to check in on existing reservations, and this after having to wait several minutes while the lone desk clerk helped an irate customer and ignored another completely. The rooms are spacious and clean, with nice high ceilings and more of the contemporary African furniture. They feature decent sized baths and good, working air conditioning. However, the curtains can't truly be called "blackout" style, as they are not hung correctly to block out the light for day sleeping. In addition, construction at the pool area and traffic on the adjacent main road generate too much noise even for sleeping in after a late night flight. There is very little within walking distance, except a "shopping center" still under construction, and a French restaurant with limited hours. The staff is slow to respond to even the most basic requests, though they're friendly while taking their time. The building is new, and is a nice pleasing place to stay for the most part, in spite of a lack of 4-star service.
