Charming Seaside Village of Guysborough on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore
Guysborough is a charming seaside village on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore. Continuously settled since 1629, Guysborough's rich history is present on the streets with historic date plaques on the buildings. There are a delightful mixture of shops, restaurants and accommodations which make it a destination for people travelling on the Marine Drive Trail.
From people seeking outdoor adventure, Guysborough's location at the head of Chedabucto Bay, the largest bay on the Atlantic Coast, provides exceptional recreational activities with hiking and cycling trails, secluded beaches and coves, nature areas, geocaching, kayaking, fishing, sailing and golf. The panoramic view of the Bay at Dort's Cove is amazing. The town wharf is a centre of activity during the summer months, with the lobster boats coming in after a morning of lobstering in May and June. There is a lobster festival in May and June to celebrate the lobster season. Other festivals on the Bay include Stanfest, a three folk music festival in Canso celebrating the life and music of Stan Rogers, and Come Home Week, a week long celebration of the people and history of Guysborough where everyone is a local, no matter where you come from. Night life is limited to the local brew pub, with Ceilidh Kitchen Parties on Wednesday evenings and East Coast music night on Saturdays. It is a friendly village, the kind of place where people stop to say hello on the street. This maritime hospitality takes you back in time and helps you settle in for a relaxing visit.
