Auckland is considered the gateway to New Zealand - Initially this was true as it was the only way to enter New Zealand as a Traveller. While still predominatly true, you can land at other cities now a days. This is my home town for the last 15 years so I may be a little biased. Worst thing about Auckland - Traffic during peak hours (like any other city.) Except that demographically Auckland is not big enough to warrant the traffic problems it does have.
