If you are coming from NYC, you will be shocked by the reserved graciousness of the Japanese who apologize for every little thing they do... although maybe thats just the older generation. Anyway, the people are incredible, and even if the culture is somewhat repressive, the fluid efficiency of everything from the trains the toilets will blow you away. One important NOTE: go with someone (or find someone there) who speaks Japanese. It is very hard to get off
