Palermo is a big, busy city in Sicily, most of which I didn't find particularly amazing, but which has some spectacular sites. The way to get around, if you don't have a car, is to walk. Prepare to walk quite a bit, depending on where you're staying.
Drivers in this city are crazy, and operate their vehicles almost without regard for pedestrians or for themselves, and you'll find yourself constantly fearing for your life when crossing the street. Just be very alert and eventually you'll get
