Milan is not beautiful in and of itself. At night the streets look like subway tunnels due to the horrendous lighting. And despite what the Milanese say, the restaurants didn't do much for me either. But the people are beautiful and they dress really well. So, before you head out for an evening of theatre at La Scala (recommended), or even out on the street at all, get yourself some new clothes (and shoes).
