This tiny little town 24km from Perugia is famous for being the home of the celebrated philanthropist Saint Frances (San Francisco), and the basilica of the same name. The approach to the town is hauntingly beautiful: the imposing Monte Subasio presides over the pink arched basilica, which in turn dominates the evergreen Umbrian meadows.
