The big island is an astonishing place. I missed the resort town of Kailua-Kona and don't regret it at all. The southeastern coast (Pahala, Na'alehu), with its black sand beach (Punaluu), rangeland, macadamia groves and access to the volcanic flows of the National Park, is a stunningly unspoiled corner of the world.
