The Red Sinai is a scuba diver's paradise. While there are many highly developed resorts like Sharm-el-Sheikh, places like Dahab are strictly for backpackers, where you can sleep in small huts with nothing more than a mattress and a candle for a couple of bucks a night, and enjoy the day just lying on the beach on large pillowed areas in makeshift cafes.
