It's known as the "head of the dragon". In other words, it's leading China's rise.
Culturally, there isn't much. Shanghai is all about great bars and restaurants.
Things change very fast but some good places (this month at least) include M-on-the-Bund, Glamour Bar, and Bar Rouge.
I would strongly suggest you get a copy of the free English monthies "That's Shanghai" and "City Weekend"..they are completely up to date and everyone's Bible
