Honeymooner Club Med
I normally never go on all-inclusive trip... I prefer finding my own way around and putting together the extra activities directly with guides/service. But this was to be my honeymoon and we decided to go with Club Med Moorea. That was an excellent choice! A must for honey-mooners!
Price: The amount will depend on your home 'port'and how long you would stay. Since everything was (mostly) included, we checked our passport and wallets into the hotel safe upon arriving. While it may seem expensive at the time of booking with ClubMed, the value is definitely there when you consider travel, most activities and food expenses are built into the price. The extra expense were in alcohol drinks between meals (ie. mid-afternoon)and going on special dive trips. They have a bead exchange system for off-hours drinks.
Facilities: The grounds are significant but designed to seem smaller and communal areas easily reached from any group. We had a bungalow near the beach clustered with 3 other structures. Each bungalows entry and outdoor deck are arranged and screened with landscape to be private and reclusive. Merely stepping 15 feet from these areas also allow you to interact with other guest if you desire.
It has plenty of beachfront to enjoy the great calm clear waters.
Game courts and areas are properly distanced from the private units. You can be having fun in the sun and not be disturbung those seeking solitude and peace.
The site is beautifully landscape and definitely give you a feeling of lush and colorful tropical paradise. The facility is designed for several hundred guest, yet you only saw a few guest during the day and then like magic, everyone shows up for the meals.
Dining: The food was excellent! You could easily gain lots of weight by overindulging in the varieties of cuisines. The main hall serves buffet style dining and have plenty of chefs around to prepare your particular choice.
If you prefer a more private dinner experience, you can sign up in the morning for that evenings' meal to be served in another area away from the hall... romantic restaurant-stlye seating. This was usually a 5 course meal serve with 2 bottles of wine.
There is usually a pig roast once a week and gets planned with the Tahitian cultural dance performance.
Staff: The Clubmed group makes sure your trip goes as smoothly as possible. When we arrived in Moorea, our bags were picked up and we didn't see them until we arrived in our rooms. This was a little different for me since I'm so used to more 'adventure' travel. I didn't see the badge on the staff member and kept telling him to put our luggage down until another member identified himself and explained he was with Clubmed.
Everyone from the moment we were greeted until the moment we left were very helpful, friendly and professional. A definite treat.
Activities: Plenty of activites are included in the price. Many sports and game equipment are available. Special activities are planned for the guest as you are oriented to their facilities. We enjoyed the trip to an island were we were taught to dance Polynesian-style dancing while enjoying traditional food and drink. Another enjoyable activity was learning how to throw spears for collecting coconuts from high above.
We added additional special dive trips which were spectacular. We went on a shark dive and over a dozen sharks came to feed aound us while we quietly watched. The most exciting time was when we left the main group (pre-arranged with the dive-masters on signal) to scout on our own. (Please note that we are fairly advance divers and this is note recommended without proper experience and training) Another small group of 5 sharks joined us and curiously circled us and swam with us for a while.
I remember plenty of friendly pick-up beach volleyball and soccergames with guest and staff, pool, ping-pong, checkers in the sand, etc.
Every night, guest and staff gather in the grand hut/hall for organized performance. The first time, all guest were urged to participate in group sing and dance... I was very resistant with all these strangers, but after the 2nd day, I was definitely relaxed and participating in the fun.
We actually felt a little guilty being so comfortable in the compound that we hadn't seen the rest of the island after being there for a week. We arranged for a motorbike to explore the island for 2 days. It was great way to tour around the shore drive cirling Moorea. We also found a trail into the island interior and it was like visiting a prehistoric landscape surrounded by jagged peaks.
We originally had arranged only for 7 days, but after a few days there, we just re-booked for 10 days and all the details were taken care of by the staff... no problems Best for: Relaxation, Fine Dining, Romance
