About niksprink: I'm a freelance travel, health, and food writer in New York City (where I've lived for 10+ years), and a former magazine editor (Travel Holiday and Parenting magazines). Before I took up writing as a profession, I cultivated a love of travel post-college when I lived in Taiwan for a year. From there, I was able to jump around Asia (HK, Thailand, Bali, Japan, China), and learned to speak Chinese. Working at a travel magazine for several years led me around the globe again. For instance, I wrote on topics as varied as traditional inns in Japan, the best under-the-radar restaurants in Brooklyn, mountain paradores in central Puerto Rico. Now I do a lot of writing for bridal pubs--covering honeymoon destinations, primarily in the Caribbean. Though these stories tend to place me in romantic, luxury resorts, I've done plenty of off-the-beaten path travel for my own fun: backpacking in Peru, schlepping around India, sleeping in treetop lodges in Thailand. In the past year, I've been to Anguilla to write about their stellar dining scene, Turks & Caicos to report on destination weddings, the Maya Riviera to experience small, luxury properties, and Puerto Vallarta to learn the lowdown on Tequila. Someday, I hope to have a modest second home in Mexico (my favorite place of all!) with a hammock by the sea.
